In general, religious education programs should observe the same protocols that apply to our Catholic schools. Our diocesan School Office, in conjunction with the Department of Human Resources, is requiring that all school personnel and volunteers be vaccinated.
Accordingly, our catechetical programs should utilize these same practices that ensure the safety of our children and volunteers.
Recognizing the unique character, demographics, and available resources of each of our parishes, the design and implementation of a program of catechesis will be left to the discretion of the local pastor and appropriate staff of each parish. Exactly how parishes manage their Catholic schools and religious education programs, while complying with state and local directives, is a local decision to be made by a pastor in dialogue with his principal and DRE/CRE.
A valuable resource for all of our parishes is the Catechetical Leaders Association of the Diocese of Paterson (click here), which is a voluntary association of catechetical leaders who assist one another with community, support, ongoing formation, best practices, and mentoring. All parish catechetical leaders are invited to become members of the CLA.
